Provigil is in a class of medications called central nervous system CNS stimulants. It works by changing the amounts of certain natural substances in the area of the brain that controls sleep and wakefulness.

Exceeding the recommended dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed may be habitforming. AVOID ALCOHOL while you are using this medicine. FOR WOMEN TAKING BIRTH CONTROL PILLS this medicine may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control pills. To prevent pregnancy use an additional form of birth control while you are taking this medicine and for 1 month after stopping this medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT discuss with your doctor.

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include nausea nervousness headache dizziness or trouble sleeping. If they continue or are bothersome check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above contact your doctor nurse or pharmacist.

If overdose is suspected contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose include fast heartbeat trouble sleeping agitation and restlessness.

If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS PRODUCT out of the reach of children. IF USING PROVIGIL FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME obtain refills before your supply runs out.

You should skip the missed dose. Wait until the next time you are supposed to take Modafinil and then take your normal dose. If you take Modafanil too late in your waking day you may find it harder to go to sleep. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
